Applications and Usage of Door Handles
Door handles are an attached mechanism used to open or close a door. Though the invention of doorknob was in the 18th century, the usage of doorknobs extends back into the 18th century. Any lever operated door latch service, including the ones on car doors may be referred to as door handle. Door knob refers to round operating mechanisms. The traditional door knob has a bolt or spindle running through it that sits just above a cylinder, to which the spindle is connected. Given the difficulty of operation of door knobs for the young and elderly, most American industrial and commercial buildings, and most of the households use lever operated door handles rather than door knob. As lever operated door handles do not require tight grip most of the household use door handles as opposed to door knobs. Most household door handles use a simple mechanism with a crew style axle that has at least one flat side, which is passed through the door jigger, leaving some length exposed on each side of the door to which the handles are attached.
